Microscopy Lab
For the analyses of rock, biofilm and tissue sections we apply a broad spectrum of microscopic
techniques reaching from conventional thin section petrography to deconvolution epifluorescence
microscopy of molecular probe-labeled microtome sections.
Sectioning
- Preparation of rock thin sections for petrography and microfacies analyses up to 10 x 15 cm in size
- Hardpart microtome sectioning of resin-embedded biofilm and tissue samples
- Sectioning of paraffin-embedded samples using a rotary microtome
Light Microscopy
- Upright epifluorescence microscope with interference contrast and deconvolution system (imaging and signal detection with Visicam-Color CCD camera, Metamorph image analyses and EPR deconvolution software)
- Inverted epifluorescence microscope with ratio imaging (filter wheels, CCD-camera Coolsnap HQ Monochrome, Metafluor software)
- Cathodoluminescence microscope
- additional epifluorescence and polarizing microscopes
Electron Microscopy
- Scanning electron microscope with element imaging device for standard investigations
- A field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) with cryo-station and EDX
